Meet your farmer!
This week we are featuring another one of our vendors, The Oven Bakery, and yes, that is absolutely a French accent you're hearing when you visit her booth.
Tiphaine hails from La Rochelle, France, but she was living in southern California when she moved here, originally to work as the site supervisor for the college preschool.
"But I was good at reading," she says, and began baking for fun. She started with cakes, "but then my neighbor told me I had to make something else because she was getting fat," and this is when the baking journey really took flight.
While yes, you can get all sorts of cookies and croissants both sweet and savory from her booth, she says her favorite things to bake now are quiches and desserts like crème brûlée. She still bakes cakes, too. Want one? You can talk to her about it - she's got some standard favorites and also takes custom orders.
It has been ten years (and ten markets!) now, and The Oven Bakery is a year-round, full-time business here in Mt. Shasta. Tiphaine plans to return to our market for the 2018 year as well, and within a month will also be serving lunch sandwiches and salads from the bakery location, as well as the Friday night brick oven pizzas she's been offering already.
Our last market for the 2017 season is this coming Monday, October 16th. Tiphaine (and her biggest helper, her daughter) will be there, selling delicious baked treats and her incredible sourdough breads, which are GMO-free and organic, always. We'll see you there!
